Values serve as guiding principles that influence behavior and decision-making. Identifying and prioritizing core values enhances leadership consistency and personal fulfillment.

When actions align with values, leaders operate authentically, build trust, and foster integrity-based organizational cultures. This skill promotes clarity, focus, and ethical leadership in challenging situations.

Practical Exercise: The “Core Values Alignment Check”

At the end of the day, take 5 minutes to reflect on how your actions aligned with your core values using these three questions:

  1. Identify a Key Decision or Action – What was a significant choice or behavior today?

    • Example: “I had to address a performance issue with a team member.”
  2. Assess Value Alignment – Which core value guided (or should have guided) your response?

    • Example: “I value honesty and growth, so I provided direct but supportive feedback.”
  3. Refine for Tomorrow – How can you better align your actions with your values moving forward?

    • Example: “Next time, I’ll check in first to understand their perspective before giving feedback.”

Action Step: Perform a Core Values Alignment Check at the end of the day for a week to strengthen consistency between values and leadership actions.

Thank you!
