Centering allows individuals to remain conscious of their presence as leaders while integrating their beliefs, biases, and emotions.

It involves cultivating self-awareness and ensuring that personal convictions align with professional responsibilities. A centered leader is intentional, confident, and composed, fostering trust and respect among their team.

This skill enhances decision-making by promoting emotional regulation and alignment with core values.

Practical Exercise: The “Anchor Statement” Method

Before making a key decision or addressing a challenge, take a moment to center yourself with an anchor statement:

  1. Pause – Take a deep breath and step back from immediate emotions.
  2. Identify Your Core Value – Ask yourself, “What principle should guide my response?”
  3. Create an Anchor Statement – Form a simple phrase that reinforces your leadership presence.
    • Example: “I lead with integrity and clarity.”
    • Example: “My role is to guide, not react.”
  4. Act with Intentionality – Proceed with confidence, ensuring your actions align with your core values.

Action Step: Before your next high-stakes conversation or decision, use the Anchor Statement Method to stay centered and intentional in your leadership approach.
