John “Blu” Blumenthal is a retired Master Sergeant with the Oklahoma City Police Department, having served 24.5 years in law enforcement. Throughout his career, Blu worked in multiple divisions including Patrol, IMPACT (undercover drug unit), Motors, the Training Center, and the Wellness Unit. Over the span of his service, he was involved in numerous critical incidents that shaped his commitment to officer wellness.

Tragically, Blu’s partner, Officer Jeff Rominger, was killed in the line of duty on August 31, 2000, along with Trooper Matt Evans of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was also present during the line-of-duty death of Sgt. Jonathan Dragus in 2005. In 2012, while instructing Custody Defensive Tactics, Blu experienced the loss of Recruit Officer Kelley Chase during training.

Since 2005, Blu has been actively involved in peer support, completing Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training through ICISF and continuing his education in this area throughout his career. His passion for wellness stems not only from professional exposure but also personal adversity—facing job loss, family struggles, and trauma-related challenges. These experiences fueled his journey toward healing and resilience, ultimately making him a stronger officer, husband, father, and grandfather.

Blu now shares his story with officers and their families to support them in navigating traumatic experiences and building healthier lives.

Blu is the founder of Blu Phoenix Support, LLC.
