Your brain is your control center. It makes decisions, regulates emotions, stores memories, and keeps you alive every second. It’s more powerful than any supercomputer on Earth. Yet most of us spend more time caring for our phones than our brains.
Consider this:
Energy drain: Your brain uses 20% of your body’s energy even at rest. That’s why dehydration, poor sleep, or skipped meals make you foggy — the brain doesn’t get what it needs.
Plasticity: Until recently, scientists thought the brain stopped developing in childhood. We now know it continues to change well into our 40s and beyond. Every new skill, every habit, every perspective literally rewires the brain.
Rest and novelty: The brain isn’t designed for constant grind. It thrives on deep rest and new experiences. A short walk, a new hobby, or quality sleep isn’t wasted time — it’s essential training.
When we don’t care for our brain, we dull our greatest asset. But when we fuel it, protect it, and challenge it, everything else improves — focus, resilience, creativity, even relationships.
Action: Pick one brain-care habit to prioritize this week:
Better sleep – prioritize getting at least 6 hours of sleep. Turn the thermostat down while you sleep, exercise in the morning to raise your core body temperature, and turn lights down in your space 2 hours before bed (including your phone).
Hydration – Try to consume at least 2 liters of water every single day.
Mindful breathing – 2-4 times during the day, take the time to just slow down your breathing. Make your exhales at least as long as your inhales.
Whichever one you choose, commit to it daily.
